What Is Food Trailer Insurance?
Mobile food trailer insurance combines different types of coverages, including general and product liability, to protect your food trailer business from common claims like:
- Third-party bodily injury (a customer trips over a crate you left in front of your trailer)
- Third-party property damage (your trailer awning blows off in a windstorm and hits another nearby food trailer at an event)
- A competitor accuses you of libel and says you spread false information about them in an ad
- A customer contracts a foodborne illness from your food
Food trailer insurance is designed to cover some — or all — of the costs of these claims, including medical bills, repairs/replacements, and legal expenses. This includes incidents that happen in, on, or around your trailer with our food trailer endorsement.
Food Liability Insurance Program (FLIP) is proud to be the only provider offering a food trailer endorsement.
Please note that food trailer insurance is not commercial auto insurance, which FLIP doesn’t offer at this time.
How Much Does Food Trailer Insurance Cost?
The cost of food trailer insurance starts at $38.42 per month and includes two parts:
- Base FLIP policy starting at $25.92 per month
- Food trailer endorsement for $12.50 per month
Don’t forget to add the food trailer endorsement during checkout! You must add this coverage to your base policy to extend your general liability coverage to your trailer.
What Types of Insurance Does a Food Trailer Need?
All mobile food service businesses need the following coverages:
Not all food trailers are the same, though. That’s why FLIP makes it easy to customize your policy with add-on coverages like:

Food Trailer Insurance Coverage Details
General Liability
Aggregate Limit: $2,000,000
General liability insurance for food trailers is designed to cover third-party bodily injury and property damage claims. If a customer trips over your power cord and gets hurt, this coverage can pay for their medical bills.
Product Liability
Aggregate Limit: $2,000,000
Food poisoning is a risk of the trade. Product liability insurance is there to cover the cost of medical bills or lawsuits if a customer becomes sick or has an allergic reaction to your food or beverage products.
Food Trailer Endorsement
Aggregate Limit: $2,000,000
Most general liability policies exclude your food trailer because it’s considered a commercial auto, but not FLIP’s. Our food trailer endorsement extends general liability insurance to your food trailer, so you’re covered against third-party claims that happen in, on, or around it while parked at an event.
Products-Completed Operations
Policy Limit: $2,000,000
This insurance is designed to cover claims related to the food and/or beverage products you sell and the services you provide. If a client sues you because you didn’t show up to cater their event on time or a customer reacts to an unlabelled allergen in your food, this coverage would respond.
Personal and Advertising Injury
Policy Limit: $1,000,000
If a competitor sues you for slander or you get hit with a copyright infringement suit, personal and advertising injury insurance can cover the cost of your legal fees, including defense costs and settlements.
Damage to Premises Rented
Aggregate Limit: $300,000
This insurance covers property damage you cause to a rented space, like a commercial kitchen, for the first seven days you rent it. After seven days, it covers fire damage to the property.
